Pillar Candle Embellishment

A simple way to turn a standard pillar candle into something special and unique.

final flower candle

You Will Need:

cookie sheet pour

1. Melt your wax in a double boiler, add your fragrance and dye, and mix thoroughly. Meanwhile, lightly coat your cookie sheet with some type of mold release agent such as Silicone Spray Lubricant.

2. Once your wax is about 175 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, carefully pour the wax onto the cookie sheet and allow it to cool slightly.

cookie cutter

3. When the wax is about the consistency of cookie dough, use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes in the wax. The best way to do this is to gently press down on the cookie cutter until it touches the cookie sheet. Wiggle it around a little bit to create a bit of space in the wax around the shape. Remove the cookie cutter, leaving the wax on the cookie sheet. (Don't try to remove the shape yet.)

wick pin hole

4. Using a wick pin or skewer, poke holes into the center of each  wax shape and then allow the wax to cool completely.

remove tulips

5. When it is completely cool, you should be able to remove the shapes from the cookie sheet easily. If you have trouble, try placing the cookie sheet in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes and try again.

pull wick through

6. Carefully go over the top of your pillar candle with a heat gun until the top of the candle is slightly  melted. Thread the wick through the hole in the wax shape and press down firmly to adhere the two waxes together.

7. Trim your wick to about 1/4" and enjoy!

I would love to start making my own candles, but I need to know which wax is the better wax that allows the cent to really penatrate the air. There a candle that I always buy and the cent is creme burlee', and I kid you not, thecent of that candle fills the entire hall way at my school, and I'm talking a total of eight classrooms on one hall. Please tell me which one of the waxes would actually smell or give true sent like this candle would.
